In modern society, web browser is getting more and more popular to Internet users. It’s easy to list some famous names such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Opera and so on. Furthermore, it’s quite interesting to get some insights into the history of such well-renowned browsers.

NCSA Mosaic (1993)

If WorldWideWeb/Nova is considered as the first web browser, NCSA Mosaic deserves to be the first most popular non-commercial one. Based on Berners-Lee’s idea, two students of Illinois College named Marc Andresseen and Eric Bina developed a version of Mosaic for X-Windows on Unix computers in February, 1993.

Mosaic supports for sound, video clips, forms support, bookmarks, and history files, and is supplied for free.

WorldWideWeb (1990)

Do you know that the beginning “www” at each website short for ‘WorldWideWeb’, the first web browser written by Tim Berners-Lee on a NeXT computer? He played a crucial role in WorldWideWeb development.

However, the browser itself has trouble in operation scope which discourages potential users.

Netscape (1994)

After graduation, Andresseen cooperated with Jim Clark – leader of Silicon Graphics to develop Mosaic Communications Corporations. Its first product was Netscape Navigator released in October 1994.

Like Mosaic, Netscape Navigator quickly became a leading browser with a number of new features such as JavaScript, frames and cookies.

Aftermaths, American Online acquired Netscape in late 1990s, and was the first loser of Internet Explorer which Microsoft released.

Opera (1996)

Telenor coporation hearquater in Norway decided to change the browser’s name MultiTorg Opera into Opera in 1996. Despite equipped with many utilities, Opera could not make a breakthrough in browser market (below 1% in U.S market).

However, the version for the mobile is welcomed all over the world.

Internet Explorer (1995)

When entering browser market, Microsoft quickly launched their Windows 95 operating system, including a Web browser called Internet Explorer.

By 2000, IE’s market share hit record 96%, confirming the leading web browser role.

Safari (2003)

Apple officially entered the browser game in 1996 with a new product, Cyberdog, but won little achievements.

However, in 2003, Safari browser was released and became a default browser for OS X and a version of Windows.

Mozilla Firefox (2003)

Quite a few has an idea that Mozilla is the codename of Navigator – a mixing between “Mosaic” and “Killer”. On December 1994, the final beta version, Mozilla 1.0, was released to make it the first commercial web browser.

Due to pressure in trademark violations, “Firebird” has turned into “Firefox” which is considered as the first challenger to Internet Explorer so far.

Chrome (2008)

At the beginning, although CEO of Google, Eric Schmidt strongly opposed to joining in the browser game, the founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page still gathered some old friends to create Chrome.

At the end, Schimidt was convinced and Chrome has become the third popular browser worldwide after IE and Firefox.

When his company launched Windows in 1985, this marked the beginning of a tech revolution that has continued to present. No home, office or business doesn’t use some kinds of Microsoft components in it. PC users now rely on Gates for the operating system their computer running on like Windows 7, XP and Vista. Besides, he is a great philanthropist donating billions of dollars for charity work.

Steve Jobs

Macintosh computer, iPhone, iPod and iPad are modern tech products that come to mind when people think about Apple and CEO Steve Jobs. He left Reed College after one semester and began working on designing games. The giant then teamed up with Steve Wozniak to found Apple in 1976 and introduced consumers to the Apple I, II, Power Mac and Macintosh computer.

Larry Ellison

In addition to Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, it is not completed if we don’t mention the Oracle Corp CEO Larry Ellison, who runs the world's second largest software company. He previously left the University of Illinois at the end of his second year and did several jobs for eight years. In 1977, Ellison and his Ampex colleagues, Robert Miner and Ed Oates, founded $2,000 Software Development Labs, which was later renamed Oracle Corporation.

Larry Page

Larry Page, who founded the world's top most Internet search titan Google along with Sergey Brin in 1998, is also named one of the most influential geeks. His company now runs over one million servers in data centers around the world and processes over one billion search requests every day.

Google has seen an impressive growth in these 12 years with profit to the tune of $6.520 billion and total asset of $40.497 billion

Carlos Slim Helu

The last name mentioned in this list is Telecom czar Carlos Slim Helu, who runs the mobile company Telmex that owns 90 percent of the telephone lines in Mexico and operates 80 per cent of the country's cell phones.

HTC EVO 3D is powered with 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 5-megapixel cameras and qHD 4.3-inch 3D display.

Windows Phone 7 with a Big Screen

The HTC HD7S delivered by AT&T aims toward customers with interest in entertainment. The phone displays 4.3-inch screen, 16GB of internal storage and 1GHz Snapdragon processor.

The Nokia (C7) Astound is equipped with 8GB of memory, 8-megapixel camera and 3.5-inch AMOLED display. The product can be purchased at the price of $80 with a two-year contract.

Famous Logos and Growth Phrases

Have you ever wondered about the developing process and the changes of famous logos such as Microsoft, Apple, LG, or Canon? Through them, a part of company’s brand is transferred immediately. If logo design is done well, a series of benefits are gained, and efforts to promote the brand distinguish are coming true. The power of a logo and benefits behind them are obvious, thus, it’s interesting to find out the meaning and growth period of top 8 giants in technology and commercial world.

Microsoft

Its first logo was introduced in 1978 in simple text in italics. So far, the logo has been designed more elegantly with a unique black color, which is absolutely popular with many people.

Siemens

The giant Siemens took innovative with two letter S and H in 1899, equivalent to two founders Siemens and Halske.

The brand was well-known in 1973 and the latest logo evolution was in 1991 with a focus on blue letters until now.

Canon

It’s interesting to find out that early typeface of Canon was different to the current one.

To reflect a global perspective- the Buddhist goddess of Mercy, a picture of the goddess with 1,000 arms and flames was designed to be Canon’s logo in 1934.

Next ones are simplified by unique changes.

LG

LG was a result of a merger between two different companies, Lucky and Goldstar. In 1995, Lucky Goldstar was renamed to LG Electronics.

A whole range of LG companies adopted the tagline: ‘Life’s Good’.

Mozilla Firefox

Early logo was on focus of a phoenix image in match with the program name. Due to legal reason, Mozilla was supposed to rename in Firefox and design stylized fox out of modified builds which is popular over the world.

Phoenix was renamed ‘Firebird’ in 2003 and ‘Firefox’ in 2004

Apple

Apple’s original logo came for the first time in 1976 reflecting the story of Issac Newton under the apple tree.

The version was changed into an interesting piece of corporate artwork.

The style logo was designed by co-founders Steve Jobs and Ronald Wayne.

IBM

The merger between International Time Recording Company and Computing Scale Company formed the first official logo of IBM in 1911. By 1947, letters IBM was aimed to commercial purpose.

 



 

 

After some small changes in 1956 and the last one in 1972, IBM was modified like in the picture.

Palm

After established in 1992, Palm went with tagline Palm Computing which is very popular worldwide.

 

The logo was changed in 2000 when the company was separated. In the last version, an orange circle appears around modified front text.
