Dead Space 2 (Single Player Review)5 THIS GAME IS OFF DA CHAIN!! I am very impressed with this sequel. They took everything from the first one, included it in this one, and made it better. The graphics, the sound, the controls are all very well done. What really sets this game apart from the first one is the fact that the main character actually has a personality in this one. He shows emotion, he shows that he is afraid at times, and you can even see that he sometimes thinks he is crazy. The enviroments are done a lot better this go around. The first Dead Space put you in some very tight-knit, closed quarters enviroments. Also, pretty much the entire game took place on a spaceship, but this one has more detailed, spacious, and varied enviroments. The enviroment also plays a huge role with combat as well. Sometimes you will have to use the enviroment the get the one-up on a few of your foes....being that this is a survival horror title, you will have to do this often especially if you are playing on the harder levels and want to conserve ammo. The enemy A.I. is a lot more advanced in this game as well. The stalkers.....WOW! Dealing with more than one of those things makes you feel like you are watching the first Jurassic Park in the scene where the raptors are hunting Doctor Grant...very intense. This game constantly has you on edge...meaning that once you push the start button, it grips you till are done playing. The game never lets you go as far as being on edge. The monsters aren't the only thing that can scare you...the objects in the enviroment can do the same thing they do. Alarm clocks, lockers, loose objects, almost everything can give you some sort of scare. In the first game, you were given some sort of "break" between levels via a tram going from one area of the ship to another with an option to save. With this game, you dont get that. Each level blends in perfectly with the previous one and sometimes, you wont even know you just completed a chapter until you physically check. Again, your inventory is done in real-time so it leaves you vulnerable to attacks. The game is very forgiving with save points which is a good thing because you never know what will happen and when. If you have never played the first one, they have an option at the start screen where you can watch what happened in the previous game. If you have an old save file on the first one, you can get a refurbished plasma cutter free of charge in the in-game store. I have not been able to tell if it does more damage than the initial one you get, but it does have the same look as it did in the first. This game has some of the most intense moments a video game can offer and actually allows you full control in what other games would more and likely turn out to be a cut scene. The controls, the enviroments, sound, action, graphics, everyhting is here for a very freaky, awesome experience!!! You will not be disappointed!! Easily one of the best games 2011 will have to offer and its only January! What A Ride! Isaac Clarke is the Man!!!4 Wow! There's one word for this game: INTENSE! Of course, fans of the first would expect nothing less. I'm pleased to say Dead Space 2 is no less of a thrill than the first. The graphics are incredible, the sound and music are very atmospheric, and the enemies are even more grotesque and much more deadly than the first bout. The years haven't been kind to Isaac and you can witness that first hand as he's losing his mind throughout the game. He shows a lot more character in this game and I can definitely see Isaac becoming a favorite character among video game junkies. The story is a great follow up and the gameplay doesn't stray too far from the original formula which was perfectly fine in my opinion. Plenty of scares and plenty of moments that make your jaw drop. My one minor problem with Dead Space 2, and it's entirely subjective, is the difficulty. I played the game on Normal and for the most part it played that way, until I got to the end. The last chapters in the game had me pulling my hair out in parts. The fact that it all happens at the end makes things even more frustrating since you know you're SO close. I played the original Dead Space on Normal and thought the difficulty was perfectly balanced but Dead Space 2 had me swearing in parts. To sum it up, the difficulty curve got incredibly high at the end but Dead Space fans will love this sequel. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody who can't handle VERY intense, horrific games/movies. PROS: - Great graphics - Great Sound FX/Music - Great story and voice acting - Very Intense CONS: - Much more difficult than the first TIP: If you want to live long in this game you better beef up that stasis module my friend. Absolutely amazing with only two flaws!4 If you're reading this review you probably already know just how great this game is. I, like a hefty majority of the reviewers, am in LOVE with the single player. It's scary, suspenseful, interesting, and fun as hell. Many different elements came together to make this experience simply amazing. The first part, the horror, was executed perfectly. I would say this game is scarier than the first one (after you got over the whole necromorph thing), there are more things popping out at you and those things are more varied. The new environment allows the game designers to bring in necromorph babies. Those things come in crazy, screaming packs that overwhelmed me way too many times. The lighting continues to be sparse and yet creates an environment that players will not want to explore. This is not because players will want to beat the game as soon as possible, on the contrary I wanted to play as much of the game as I possibly could. However, it felt like every time I walked into a room I didn't have to I was suddenly attacked by some type of monster. It was great. The other part of the single player was its gameplay. Again it was phenomenal. The graphics were great and added to the eerie rooms and gory necromorphs. The controls were tight, the HUD, like in Dead Space 1, was in-game (allowing the player to really feel like they were guiding Isaac, not some computer-generated space guy). Now comes my only problem with the single player. Even if you play on normal difficulty at times the game felt hard, unfair even. At some check points I had to try out like 15 different strategies before beating one area. DOn't get me wrong, I loved to be challenged in video games, but sometimes I just felt like parts were unbeatable. My only other problem doesn't have to do with the single player it was the whole multiplayer experience. If you are the only person in this world who plans on buying this game for the multiplayer, don't. The multiplayer feels like the developers just wanted to jump on the bandwagon and just pump out some online fun without really thinking about it. The amazing story isn't carried over into multiplayer(which has become a theme with games with good stories like AC: Brotherhood or Bioshock 2). Games are hard to get into and once you do you get about 5 minutes of mediocrity before going back into a lobby for awhile. The game is great BUY IT NOW!!!! If I could give 4 1/2 stars I would, as the multiplayer problems don't really effect a lot of players. Have fun in the single player and even in the multiplayer if you want to. I'm sure the developers will come out with a patch to fix multiplayer soon but for now.. Anyways have fun mutilating necromorphs and s*******g your pants!!
